Amman, 7 July 2026 – Minister of Transport and Acting Minister of Labor Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin inaugurated today the National Employment Day at Sports City in Amman, opening the country's largest job-matching event for the second year running.
Organized by the Ministry of Labour in partnership with UNICEF and supported by the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the PROSPECTS Partnership, the event runs across four locations in Amman and in every governorate of the Kingdom.
Held ahead of World Youth Skills Day on 15 July, the event underscores the role of skills development and technical and vocational training in preparing young people for a changing labour market.
Around 700 institutions and companies from various private sector industries are participating, including private education, services and finance, tourism, telecommunications, manufacturing, logistics services, and security and protection companies.
"Under the Economic Modernization Vision launched under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the government is implementing policies that expand youth employment, build skills that match labour market needs, and strengthen women's economic participation," Dr. Al-Qatamin said, crediting the strong private sector response as the driving force behind this year's event.
The Minister noted that connecting job seekers living in Jordan with private sector employers remains a top priority for the Ministry, alongside efforts to promote talent abroad and to ensure an enabling work environment for women and persons with disabilities.
"Behind every number at this event is the story of a young man or woman looking for a chance to build their future," said Marc Rubin, UNICEF Representative to Jordan. "Our job is to make sure those chances reach everyone, especially women, persons with disabilities, and young people in less privileged communities, because every young person in Jordan has the right to find their path from learning to earning."
"Our partnership with the Ministry of Labour extends well beyond this single day," Rubin added. "The National Employment Day is part of UNICEF's Learning-to-Earning agenda, which strengthens Jordan's employment systems so they can serve young people well beyond this event. It also reflects the value of our strategic partnership with the Kingdom of the Netherlands through PROSPECTS in helping young people in Jordan achieve their aspirations."
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Pier de Vries said: “Supporting the Government of Jordan’s goal to create more jobs for young people and to provide youth with the right skills to access the job market is a key priority for The Netherlands. Under the Dutch funded PROSPECTS partnership, we aim to enable access to decent jobs for everyone in Jordan, including among host communities and Syrian refugees.”
After the event, the Ministry of Labour and UNICEF will track employment outcomes and connect job seekers with longer-term national services, including the National Employment Programme, the "Sajjel" national employment platform, and vocational training pathways.
