Launch of the Fourth Cycle of the Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Voluntary Work and Opening of Applications

Amman, 21 September – Minister of Youth and Deputy Chairman of the award's Board of Trustees of the Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Voluntary Service, Dr.  Raed Adwan, today announced the launch of the fourth cycle of the Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Voluntary Service and the opening of applications for the award. 

The announcement was made during a ceremony held at Al Hussein Youth City, attended by a number of ministers and officials, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Youth and Chairman of the Award Management Committee Dr. Mazen Abu Bakr, UNICEF Representative to Jordan Marc Rubin, members of the Award’s Board of Trustees, management and judging committees, representatives of national and youth institutions, and a number of winners from previous cycles. 

In his remarks, Dr. Al Adwan said that the Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Voluntary Service, launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in 2021 to mark International Volunteer Day, in partnership with the Crown Prince Foundation and UNICEF, is the highest national award recognizing voluntary work. The award aims to encourage volunteerism, channel people’s energy toward volunteering, promote a culture of volunteer work, strengthen social responsibility among institutions, and recognize outstanding voluntary initiatives with a positive impact. 

He noted that the fourth cycle comes after three previous cycles that attracted more than 47,000 applicants across the award’s various categories and fields. Preparations for the fourth cycle included amendments to the award’s regulations to institutionalize its work, strengthen governance, improve its mechanisms based on lessons learned from the previous three cycles, enhance its tools and procedures in line with its national objectives, strengthen the independence of the evaluation process, and expand participation to include all residents of the Kingdom. 

Al Adwan stressed that the award has never been merely about recognition, but rather about acknowledging impact, valuing effort, and celebrating individuals who have made serving others a means of building, initiating a form of responsibility, and giving a practice that contributes to the community. 

He added that the award is open to every Jordanian man and woman, as well as anyone residing in the Kingdom who contributes their time, effort and expertise to serving the community. He emphasized that volunteering reflects deeply rooted Jordanian values of solidarity, cooperation and helping others. 

He noted that the award focuses on measuring impact, documenting volunteers’ stories and experiences, and highlighting models that have transformed belonging into action, initiative into impact, and giving into a sustainable value within society. He also stressed the importance of continuing to support volunteerism, recognizing outstanding initiatives and volunteer work, and strengthening the culture of volunteering in Jordanian society. 

The vision and mission of the Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Voluntary Service are centered on excellence in volunteer work in service of Jordanian society, expanding the culture of volunteering, enabling individuals and institutions to apply standards of excellence to their volunteer projects and initiatives, motivating and recognizing outstanding volunteers, and sharing their success stories. 

The award is based on three core principles: recognition, motivation, and fostering a spirit of individual and institutional competition to promote outstanding volunteer work and share successful experiences. The Crown Prince’s Award for Voluntary Work is also founded on the principles of giving, leadership and innovation, equal opportunity and equality, social responsibility, transparency, sustainability, and motivation. 

Applicants can apply under four categories: Best Outstanding Individual Volunteer Work, Best Outstanding Volunteer Team, Best Outstanding Volunteer Project (Corporate Social Responsibility) for for-profit institutions, and Best Outstanding Volunteer Project for non-profit institutions. 

The fields of volunteer work eligible for submission include social, health, educational and training, sports, artistic and cultural, environmental, tourism, as well as entrepreneurship and innovation. 

Registration for the award will remain open until the end of November. This will be followed by a three-stage evaluation process, including initial screening, desk evaluation, and field evaluation, leading to the selection of the best submitted volunteer initiatives that meet the award’s criteria, which are based on planning, implementation, continuity of volunteer activities, impact and results. 

Applicants will compete for 12 awards recognizing the best volunteer initiatives, with awards presented to the top three entries in each category. All applicants will also receive a certificate of participation in recognition of their efforts in the field of volunteer work.

Ahead of the launch of the fourth cycle, training and orientation sessions were held for award ambassadors and liaison officers from partner institutions and organizations. The sessions covered the award’s vision, mission, objectives and categories, as well as participation requirements and the application process. 

Following the opening of registration, further orientation and training sessions on the award will continue to be held across all governorates of the Kingdom, with the participation of numerous government, national and civil society institutions.
