UNICEF Indonesia welcomes Thomas Davin as new Representative

JAKARTA, 10 September 2026 – UNICEF Indonesia announced the appointment of Thomas Davin as its new Representative. He will provide strategic leadership to UNICEF’s work in Indonesia, further strengthening collaboration with the Government of Indonesia and other partners, in support of efforts to advance the rights and well-being of children across the country. 

Davin formally presented his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on 9 September, officially marking the commencement of his assignment in the country. He brings more than 25 years of experience with UNICEF, spanning country office leadership, regional management, humanitarian response and global innovation. 

Prior to his appointment in Indonesia, Davin served for over five years as Director of UNICEF’s Global Office of Innovation, headquartered in Sweden and operated through a globally distributed network of innovation hubs and experts. In this role, he led efforts to identify and scale innovative solutions for children, working with governments, the private sector, foundations, start-ups, young innovators and other partners. Under his leadership, the Office expanded its reach across more than 120 countries, supporting solutions in areas such as using AI to support children's learning and blockchain to reach unvaccinated children, and innovative finance for child-focused ventures.

“Having spent the past five years leading UNICEF’s global innovation work, I look forward to bringing lessons, partnerships and innovative approaches from around the world to support Indonesia’s ambitions for children, while showcasing Indonesia’s experiences and achievements globally. I look forward to working closely with the Government of Indonesia, communities, civil society, development partners, the private sector and young people, to build on the country’s remarkable progress and aspirations.” 

Davin also brings extensive experience in East Asia and the Pacific. From 2019 to 2020, he served as UNICEF Deputy Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific, a.i., supporting UNICEF’s work across the region. Prior to that, he served as UNICEF Representative in Thailand from 2016 to 2019. 

Earlier in his career, he served as UNICEF Representative in Algeria, Regional Chief of Emergency Response for the Middle East and North Africa, and Deputy Representative for Programmes and acting Representative in Djibouti. He also held assignments with UNICEF focused on humanitarian response, development and social impact in Kosovo, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Geneva. 

Davin is a French national and holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Institut d’Études Politiques in Strasbourg and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Université Lumière Lyon II. He is married and is a father of two children.
