Jakarta, 10 February 2026 – UNICEF Indonesia today officially announced the appointment of Cinta Laura Kiehl as its new National Ambassador during a media event held at the National Library of Indonesia. The appointment highlights the important role public figures play in mobilizing support and advancing the rights and well-being of children across the country.

Cinta Laura brings to the role a long-standing commitment to social issues, particularly those affecting children and young people. Prior to her appointment, she has supported various UNICEF initiatives, including campaigns on child marriage prevention, and children’s right to education. Through her strong public reach and ability to inspire, she aims to help bring children’s issues into everyday conversations and amplify the voices of children and young people across Indonesia.

In late 2025, Cinta Laura visited Asmat, Papua, with UNICEF, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges facing children and families in remote and underserved communities and the ongoing efforts to address them. The visit provided an opportunity to see how UNICEF is working with the Government of Indonesia in strengthening essential services for children, including health, nutrition, education and child protection.

“Being appointed as UNICEF Indonesia’s National Ambassador is, for me, a deeply personal moral responsibility,” said Cinta Laura. “I have always believed that potential is evenly distributed, but sadly, opportunities are not.”

“When I visited Asmat, Papua, I witnessed firsthand how intelligent and resilient the children are, despite the extremely limited facilities around them. That experience deeply moved me and strengthened my commitment to ensuring their fundamental rights are fulfilled—the right to grow up safe, healthy, and surrounded by care. Together with UNICEF, we must accelerate our efforts to close this gap and build an ecosystem where every child has an equal starting point, so no child is left behind from the future they deserve.”

Speaking at the launch, Maniza Zaman, UNICEF Representative to Indonesia, welcomed Cinta Laura to UNICEF’s global family of ambassadors.

“Public figures play an important role in making children’s rights visible and relatable. They have the ability to inspire others and mobilize them as champions for children,” said Maniza Zaman. “Cinta brings authenticity, curiosity, and a genuine willingness to engage with the realities of children’s lives. UNICEF looks forward to a meaningful partnership with our new National Ambassador, so that together we can shine a light on the challenges, the progress, and the solutions needed for every child’s rights to be fully realized”.

As National Ambassador, Cinta Laura will support UNICEF Indonesia’s advocacy efforts by raising awareness on key child rights issues, including education, child protection, girls’ empowerment, and climate action. Her voice will play a vital role in encouraging collective action to create a more inclusive and equitable future for every child.

This appointment comes as UNICEF approaches its 80th anniversary globally in December 2026, underscoring the organization’s longstanding and continued commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of all children.

NOTE TO THE EDITOR:

UNICEF has a long history of working with influential figures to support child rights advocacy, dating back to 1954 when actor Danny Kaye was appointed as UNICEF’s first Goodwill Ambassador. Among UNICEF’s prominent global Goodwill Ambassadors are Audrey Hepburn, Sir Roger Moore, Jackie Chan, Sir David Beckham and Leo Messi.

In Indonesia, UNICEF appointed Ferry Salim as its first National Ambassador in 2004, a role he continues to hold.  In addition to National Ambassadors, UNICEF Indonesia also collaborates with Champions and Friends of UNICEF from diverse talents, disciplines, and backgrounds, including the arts, music, film, medicine, nutrition, sport, and content creation.

These individuals serve as powerful advocates, sharing their time and passion to help advance child rights so that all children can grow up healthy, educated, protected, and able to fulfil their potential.

These partnerships contribute to UNICEF’s broader work, implemented in partnership with the Government of Indonesia, civil society, the private sector, academia, media, and young people themselves.
