Highlights

The Open Vial Policy (OVP) was introduced in India in 2013 for reducing both vaccine wastage as well as government healthcare costs for immunization, which was further revised in September 2015.

UNICEF in collaboration with MOHFW conducted an assessment of the status of implementation of the Open Vial Policy in India in Feb 2019.

This assessment brought out the key achievements and identified gaps in knowledge and practices of ANM and VCCH in the implementation of Open Vial Policy and important recommendations to achieve the objectives of the OVP.
