Highlights

The report, Multidisciplinary Cooperation in Child Protection – A Proposed Model outlines practical solutions to strengthen coordination and collaboration among professionals from different sectors, thereby improving the effectiveness of child protection system. The report was prepared at the request of the UNICEF Refugee Response Office in Poland and authored by Joanna Gorczowska, child protection expert.

It presents recommendations on strengthening multidisciplinary cooperation at the local level to improve the prevention of violence against children.

Insufficient cooperation and the lack of effective information-sharing between services and institutions remain among the key systemic risk factors for child protection. These gaps can delay the identification of abuse and neglect, as well as timely and appropriate responses.

The proposed model was developed in cooperation with a group of experts coordinated by UNICEF and the Ministry of Justice. The group included representatives of central government institutions, local authorities, social welfare entities, the police, as well as international and civil society organizations engaged in child protection.

6-year-old Timur is a child with special needs. Together with his 40-year-old mother Eleonora and 10-year-old sister fled from Zaporizhia to Warsaw after the escalation of war.
