Highlights

fter the first survey conducted in 2007, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has just completed its Second Demographic and Health Survey, confirming its definitive inclusion in the International Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program. This second survey responds globally to the same objectives as the first, namely to produce reliable and up-to-date indicators for the elaboration, monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the sectoral programs and policies of the country.

The DHS-DRC II collected data that made it possible, among other things, to estimate fertility levels, contraceptive prevalence, under-five mortality levels and the level of maternal mortality. In addition, these data were used to calculate maternal health indicators, to assess the nutritional status of children under five and women aged 15-49, and to estimate the prevalence of AIDS in the general population.

The DHS-DRC II also carried out in the field the anemia test in children under five, women aged 15-49 and men aged 15-59 and the rapid diagnostic test for malaria in children under five years old. In addition, this survey enabled the collection of blood samples on slides or filter papers for the realization, in specialized laboratories, of the HIV test in women aged 15-49 and in men aged 15-59 as well as malaria and rubella immunization, measles, poliomyelitis and tetanus in children under five years of age.
