Prevention of child sexual abuse and gender-based violence

Niños y niñas

A veil of silence is often placed over acts of sexual violence. The perpetrators insist on keeping what happened a secret. Victims are paralyzed by fear and bewilderment about what happened. Some myths about this problem keep these situations from coming to light, prevent them from having an adequate legal course and hinder the possibility of providing professional support to the victims.

Addressing this issue with families and teachers and, above all, preparing children and adolescents from an early age to identify the signs in time and act in response to them, are ways to close the door to child sexual abuse. Mídete wishes to be part of this path and promote the right to live a violence-free childhood and adolescence.

What is the relationship between gender-based violence and violence affecting children and adolescents? This is another of the questions asked by the Mídete campaign, which seeks to understand the cultural roots of these problems, their impacts and consequences. Recognizing these forms of violence, preventing them and acting against them are fundamental steps to contribute to the integral wellbeing of children and adolescents in Cuba.
