Who we are
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Cuba aims at promoting and defending the rights of every child in the country. In this regard, UNICEF accompanies the Cuban government in the implementation of its development priorities to foster equity and create a world fit for children and adolescents.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, make up the reference framework for the collaboration with the Cuban government.
Cooperation between UNICEF and the Government of Cuba started in the 1960s with a focus on immunization issues. In 1992, a UNICEF office opened in Cuba and the first Cooperation Program began.
