From April 20 to 22, 2026 UNICEF Croatia hosted in Zagreb a study visit by a delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina comprising representatives of UNICEF Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Institute of Public Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Institute of Public Health of the Republika Srpska. The visit aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences in strengthening nutrition systems, with a particular focus on early childhood, schools and primary health care.
The study visit was organized in close collaboration with the Croatian Institute of Public Health (CIPH) and builds on existing partnerships and joint efforts supported by UNICEF to improve child nutrition and prevent malnutrition across the region.
During their stay in Zagreb, the delegation participated in a series of technical meetings and exchanges at the Croatian Institute of Public Health. Discussions focused on Croatia’s experience in implementing nutrition programmes in preschools and schools, integrating nutrition services into primary health care, promoting multisectoral collaboration, and using scientific evidence to inform public health policies, including the implementation of the COSI study.
“UNICEF Croatia was pleased to host the study visit of the delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which enabled a valuable exchange of experiences in strengthening nutrition systems, with a particular focus on early childhood, schools and primary health care. This visit reinforced the importance of cross-country learning and collaboration and laid a strong foundation for continued cooperation between UNICEF offices and public health institutions in advancing evidence-based nutrition and prevention programmes,” said Luisa Brumana, Representative of UNICEF Croatia.
As part of the visit, a welcome meeting was held at the UNICEF Croatia Office, where participants were introduced to UNICEF’s work under the EU Child Guarantee framework and explored opportunities for continued cooperation in preventive and research-based programmes.
The study visit highlighted the importance of regional learning and collaboration in addressing shared challenges related to child nutrition and public health, while setting the stage for strengthened future cooperation between UNICEF offices and public health institutions in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
