Douala, le 21 March 2025- Under the chairmanship of the Minister of Basic Education, MTN, UNICEF and Cameroon's Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB) inaugurated the e-container at Bilonguè public school in Douala on Friday, March 21, 2025, in the presence of local authorities.
The e-container, built with the financial and technical support of the MTN Foundation and UNICEF Cameroon, provides students and teachers with an educational space equipped with access to New Information Technologies (NIT), promoting online and offline learning via computers and 70 tablets for dynamic teaching and access to connectivity for students and teachers. Constructed from recycled materials and powered by solar energy, it has been designed to allow air circulation and thermal and acoustic comfort. In addition, the energy provided by the solar panels gives the entire school complex access to electricity.
The e-container at Bilonguè public school caters for 1,200 pupils aged 6 to 14. 20 teachers have been trained in the basic use of ICTs in teaching.
The MTN Foundation, created by one of Cameroon's leading telecommunications operators, MTN, is dedicated to supporting their communities through humanitarian projects in the fields of development, health, the environment and education.
An innovative project, the e-container/digital hub is part of the Connect My School initiative aimed at reducing the digital divide, providing sustainable connectivity in all schools, equip children, both girls and boys, to develop the skills they need to realize their full potential, and contribute to inclusive national socio-economic development through the introduction of information and communication technologies (ICT) in teaching and learning.
Under the lead of UNICEF and in support of the Ministry of Basic Education in 17 schools in the Eastern region, 1 school group in the Central region, and 1 school group in the Littoral region, the Connect My School initiative has enabled some 20,000 primary school pupils and 284 teachers to familiarize themselves with ICT in the teaching/learning process.
UNICEF also thanks Education Cannot Wait for their contribution to the equipment, particularly the tablets.
“We aim to extend this initiative throughout Cameroon so that all children can benefit from access to the digital technologies that are shaping our world, thanks to this e-container and the Connect My School initiative, which aims to improve learning outcomes for school-age children through digital means,”
“The well-being of communities is crucial, but the well-being of children is paramount. It's a priority for us,”
