"Let us see the world through the eyes of refugee and migrant children." – Christina de Bruin

On the eve of International Children’s Day – June 1st – UNICEF Bulgaria, in partnership with Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, opened an inspiring photo exhibition titled “Innocence unbound.”
The event was dedicated to refugee and migrant children, with a special focus on the most vulnerable among them – unaccompanied minors. These children may have lost much, but not memories of family, their dreams, or their hope.

The exhibition presents the stories of refugee and migrant children and families living in Bulgaria. Among them are Amira, Nawraz, Zhenya, and Anastasia – children whose strength, resilience, and dreams transcend borders and prejudice. Their stories are captured through the lenses of talented photographers Dobrin Minkov, Nikolay Stoykov, and Angel Spasov, who, with sensitivity and respect, portray moments of vulnerability as well as the powerful spirit of childhood – a true source of inspiration.

The event was made possible with the support of key UNICEF partners, including:

• The State Agency for Refugees under the Council of Ministers
• The Embassy of Switzerland in Bulgaria
• The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM)
• The State Agency for Child Protection
• And the host of the exhibition – Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”

The exhibition was part of a series of initiatives dedicated to children’s rights. As part of the event, on June 1st at 12:30 PM, a student seminar on the topic of refugee and migrant children was held in the “Egg” Hall of Sofia University. UNICEF representatives also participated in a lecture for students focused on the importance of volunteerism.
