Sofia, July 14, For 80 years, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has been working to protect the rights of every child around the world. UNICEF is on the front line of humanitarian crises, armed conflicts, and natural disasters, providing life-saving support to millions of children and their families.
In the year that marks the 80th anniversary of the organization’s founding, UNICEF Bulgaria is launching a new fundraising campaign under the message: “There Is No Such Thing as Someone Else’s Child.” The campaign is inspired by one of the deepest-rooted values in Bulgarian culture - the belief that caring for and supporting children is a shared responsibility. Because every child has the right to care, education, and protection from violence.
Funds raised through the campaign will support UNICEF programmes for the most vulnerable children in Bulgaria and around the world, helping ensure that every child has the best possible start in life, access to quality education, protection from violence, and support in times of crisis.
Early Childhood Development
In their earliest years, thousands of infants and young children living in vulnerable circumstances do not receive the support and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.
UNICEF advocates for systematic developmental screening in early childhood and provides individual support and early intervention services for children with developmental difficulties and their families.
Education
Many children still do not have equal access to quality education and an inclusive school environment where they feel accepted and supported.
UNICEF works to ensure that every child can learn and attend a school that supports them and gives them a chance for a better future.
Protection from Violence
Every second child in Bulgaria has experienced some form of violence, and every third child has been a victim of physical violence.
Through the Zona ZaKrila model, UNICEF, together with its partners, protects children's rights by providing psychological, legal, and social support under one roof, while also working to prevent violence.
Emergency Response
Today, more than one in every six children worldwide lives in conflict-affected areas, facing violence, insecurity, and serious violations of their rights. The world is currently experiencing the highest number of conflicts since the Second World War.
Over the past five years, the escalation of international and internal conflicts has forced more than 300,000 people, including 80,000 children, to seek international protection in Bulgaria.
During disasters, conflicts, and other emergencies, children are among the most vulnerable. UNICEF provides life-saving assistance, protection, and access to essential services for children and families affected by conflict, disasters, and forced displacement.
Everyone who believes that children deserve a better future can join UNICEF’s community of DONORS. Regular monthly donations provide sustainable support and care for the most vulnerable children in Bulgaria and around the world.
Giving is a natural expression of human compassion. When thousands of people come together, small acts become real change - for every child, their family, and society as a whole.
The “There Is No Such Thing as Someone Else’s Child” campaign reminds us that, no matter how uncertain and complex the world has become, one thing remains unchanged: There Is No Such Thing as Someone Else’s Child.
Thanks to all UNICEF MONTHLY DONORS, we are there for children when they need us most.
