Ukraine Refugee Response in Bulgaria

- Throughout 2024, a steady number of Ukrainian refugees have been remaining
in the country (52,000-54,000). In May, however, the numbers started to
increase and by the end of June almost doubled, reaching more than 105,000
Ukrainians in the country.
Respectively, the number of people in the government-provided accommodation
scheme has increased from around 5,000 to 20,000 Ukrainians.
The Humanitarian Programme for Ukrainian refugees of Bulgaria was extended
until July 31, 2024, despite the initial plans for revising it and expanding it to
include support for integration.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, as of March 2024, a total of
1,323 children were enrolled in kindergarten, of whom 655 for the first time
and 3,582 children were enrolled in schools, of whom 1,796 for the first time.
