Young people take the lead on climate action at upcoming LCOY Armenia

YEREVAN, ARMENIA — 18 August, 2025 — Over 100 adolescents and young people from across Armenia are expected to gather in Yerevan for the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY Armenia), a dynamic platform empowering youth to shape climate solutions and influence policy. The event will take place on 6 to 7 September 2025 at the American University of Armenia (AUA).

Organized by Narek Ohanyan and Ani Paltajyan, LCOY Armenia is part of the global YOUNGO network, the official youth constituency of the UNFCCC. Supported by UNICEF Armenia and the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment, the conference is sought to bring together adolescents and young people from all marzes of Armenia, including Climate Change Youth Advisory Board established by Ministry of Environment and UNICEF, as well as climate policy leaders and representatives of Ministry of Environment, UN Armenia and civil society organizations.

“LCOY is more than a conference — it’s a movement. It’s where young people come together to drive real change. The organizing committee of young people is very much looking forward to working with our peers during the conference days to draft and altogether to vote on a National Youth Statement that will represent the key issues faced by children and young people in their communities as a result of climate change and environmental degradation,” said Narek Ohanyan and Ani Paltajyan, LCOY Armenia 2025 licensees and YOUNGO members.

The event will feature:

• Interactive workshops and panel discussions
• Youth-led climate activities
• Policy drafting sessions contributing to the Global Youth Statement for COP30 in Brazil
