Ha Noi, 30 May 2025 – UNICEF Viet Nam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), Viet Nam National Innovation Center (NIC), and STEAM for Viet Nam, is proud to co-host the National Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Education—a multi-stakeholder platform to accelerate AI capacity building in the education sector.
The forum marks a key milestone in MOET’s 2025 National Plan to enhance digital and AI competencies for teachers and education managers, and follows the State Party’s Resolution 57, which prioritizes science, technology, innovation, and high-quality human resources to drive the national growth target of at least 8% in 2025 and propel Viet Nam towards high-income status by 2045, with a vision to 2050.
The Plan presents a comprehensive roadmap for equipping teachers and school leaders with the skills to integrate AI into teaching and school management. “We should use AI in a proactive, independent, and intelligent manner—without dependency—and with a strong sense of ethicality,” shared Vice Minister Phạm Ngọc Thưởng of the MOET. “Through these training and professional development processes, the Ministry of Education and Training, in collaboration with UNICEF and other relevant organizations, will continue developing thematic content to implement the AI Strategy in education.” The Plan also introduces initiatives such as a National Showcase Day to celebrate innovative educators and highlight best practices in digital transformation.
UNICEF Viet Nam has been a long-standing strategic partner in MOET’s digital transformation journey. Over the past four years, UNICEF has supported the development of the National AI Strategy for the Education Sector to 2035, Digital Competency Frameworks for teachers and students, and AI skill-building initiatives for teachers, managers, and students. UNICEF also piloted AI-powered tools in classrooms, including assistive technologies for children with disabilities, gamified learning platforms, and AI-driven resources that promote inclusive and diverse teaching and learning.
“Through broad-based partnerships, including ed-tech organizations like STEAM for Viet Nam, and the Education Sector Group, UNICEF is supporting Viet Nam in reimagining education through innovation,” said Silvia Danailov, UNICEF Representative to Viet Nam. “We are committed to ensuring that AI is used ethically, inclusively, and responsibly—with a strong focus on equity, child protection, and digital wellbeing. Together, we can build an education system where every teacher is empowered, every student is prepared, and no child is left behind.”
Tran To Uyen, STEAM for Viet Nam’s Co-founder and Country Director adds: “AI is not just a supportive tool, but the key to unlocking the potential of every Vietnamese teacher. The success in Điện Biên—the first province to provide 100% of teachers with free AI training—has demonstrated that, regardless of geography or social conditions, teachers can master technology and extend its benefits to millions of students. STEAM for Vietnam together with other stakeholders plans to scale this model, aiming to bring AI education to every teacher across the country.”
