TASHKENT, 1 October 2025 — As Uzbekistan celebrates Teacher’s Day, UNICEF Uzbekistan underscores the vital role of teachers in leading the nation's digital transformation in education. With 540,000 in school education and 174,000 in pre-primary, teachers are central to guiding children’s learning every day.

UNICEF Representative, Regina Castillo emphasized, “Teachers are the foundation of education and key drivers of change and innovation. They should not be replaced by technology and AI rather they a have a capacity to harness technology, to personalize learning, inspire creativity, and empower every child.”

In collaboration with the Government, UNICEF in Uzbekistan has been at the cutting edge of supporting professional development, introducing digital innovations, and inclusive practices in the education sector, including:

  • AI-powered tools to enhance math education and promote AI readiness across classrooms.
  • Successful pilots like Eduten and Teacher Pro, showing improved results in learning outcomes by 17%, demonstrating that technology strengthens, rather than replaces, teachers.
  • The Bolalik Akademiyasi platform, now accessed by around 40,000 pre-school teachers for high-quality professional development.
  • The Jalinga studio, established with the support Islamic Development Bank, to develop AI-enabled digital and multimedia resources for teacher professional development in blended learning modalities.

UNICEF continues to work with the Ministry of Pre-school and School Education in upgrading teacher training, aligning with international standards to ensure quality education for all children.

Further, UNICEF is closely working with the Ministry of Pre-school and School Education in order to reach all teachers over the next five years, equipping them with modern methodologies and digital skills. More than 6.5 million school students and nearly 2.4 million girls and boys in preschool will benefit from improved curriculum and digital technologies in a rapidly changing world.

In conclusion Castillo said: “On Teacher’s Day we applaud the over 600,000 teachers across Uzbekistan who are the true drivers of national transformation and engines of the country's human capital development”.
