New modern equipment was purchased for the local dental offices thanks to the participation of the Shyrokivska community in a joint project of UNICEF and the Association of Ukrainian Cities. One of these offices is located in a hospital in Zaporizhzhia, and another in an outpatient clinic in the village of Mykolai-Pole, which is 30 kilometers from the regional center.
For a couple of months, when doctors have been working with new equipment, dozens of children underwent routine diagnostics, treated acute pain emergencies, and received comprehensive treatment. Almost a quarter of the little patience have the status of internally displaced persons.
Ten-year-old Eva from Volodymyrivske village is one of them. For a long time, she couldn’t find a doctor who would help her to solve the problems with her teeth that had been bothering her for two months. As the result, her parents came for help from the clinic's specialists with modern dental equipment. From the first visit, little Eva got satisfied.
“The first thing that we noticed, is clearness in the office, the room full of light, and a friendly doctor who started examining my teeth. In the beginning, I was scared a bit, because I’m afraid of dentists, but it wasn’t even painful and everything went well. When my mom said that I had to come back to examine my teeth one more time, I agreed because I liked to meet this doctor and be in her spacious light office,” Eva recalls.
For a few weeks, Eva and her mom kept visiting the doctor who helped her by treating caries and other dental problems that had been bothering the little patient.
“I found it great that local dentists provide quick and professional diagnostics. In addition, my daughter wasn’t afraid to come here at all, because the doctor could calm Eva down and find a way to communicate with her. That is why all the further visits were also comfortable and almost painless. Since the office can offer modern equipment, we treated the problem teeth in a few weeks. Now we continue treatment of the gums. I'm grateful to the doctors and everyone involved in equipping such a modern dental office," says Daria, Eva's mother.
The dental offices keep working and offer their services to all who need help, examining, advising, and treatment. The new equipment allows specialists to respond to any challenges.
All the equipment was purchased as part of the project "Emergency Response to Support Children Affected by Armed Conflict through Cash Transfers to Territorial Communities Included in the Child and Youth Friendly Community Initiative to Support the Urgent Needs of Families with Children," implemented by UNICEF Ukraine in cooperation with the Association of Ukrainian Cities.
Flexible funding enables UNICEF to continue providing life-saving supplies and address immediate needs of children and families in Ukraine. The Governments of Denmark, Iceland, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Serbia are among UNICEF's partners that have contributed to flexible funding, alongside the UNICEF family of National Committees.
