National Micro Planning Handbook for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
in Public Primary and Secondary Schools in Uganda
Highlights
Every child has the right to a quality education, which includes access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in school. Children spend a significant portion of each day in school, where WASH services can affect learning, health, and dignity, especially among girls. WASH services can support gender mainstreaming by improving menstrual hygiene management, while reducing the amount of time it takes to fetch water. WASH services are also essential to infection prevention and control, and can reduce student dehydration, which has been associated with improved cognition. Download publication
