Republic of Korea renews support for children in Syria with US$7.95 million contribution

DAMASCUS, 16 July 2026 – UNICEF welcomes a contribution of US$7,950,000 from the Government of the Republic of Korea to support lifesaving and resilience-building programmes for children and vulnerable families in Syria as part of the second phase of the global Resilience for Children+ partnership.

The funding is part of the Republic of Korea’s US$40 million global humanitarian flagship initiative with UNICEF, supporting children affected by crises across five countries, including Syria.

In Syria, the partnership aims to improve the health, nutrition and education outcomes of at least 400,000 vulnerable children and women in hard-to-reach areas and communities with returning families across the country.

After more than a decade of crisis, millions of children in Syria continue to face compounding challenges, with disrupted access to essential services increasing their risk of disease, malnutrition, violence and interrupted learning.

Through this partnership, UNICEF will deliver integrated and community-based services to expand access to healthcare, safe water, learning opportunities and child protection services, while reinforcing local systems and resilience to future shocks.

“This generous contribution from the Republic of Korea comes at a critical time for children in Syria,” said Meritxell Relaño Arana, UNICEF Representative to Syria. “As families continue to face immense challenges, this support will help UNICEF and its partners sustain essential services and strengthen systems that children rely on to survive, learn and thrive,” she added.

The Republic of Korea remains a longstanding and committed partner for children in humanitarian settings, with this new contribution building on a strong partnership with UNICEF to bridge immediate humanitarian needs with longer-term recovery and resilience.
