UNICEF Sudan Humanitarian Situation Report: April 2026

Highlights

• On 15 April 2026, Sudan's war entered its fourth year with no signs of abating, as violence, mass displacement and collapsed services continue to drive one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises.
   
• In a significant milestone, UNICEF supported the safe conduct of national examinations for 544,200 students across more than 3,000 centres, helping sustain learning despite conflict and significant access constraints.
   
• Deteriorating food insecurity and conflict continue to drive acute malnutrition, underscoring the need for a sustained, integrated response. With UNICEF support, 786,300 children under five were screened for acute malnutrition, and over 74,000 children were admitted for SAM treatment. UNICEF scaled up immunization to prevent disease outbreaks, delivering 14.6 million vaccine doses, including through cross-border operations to hard-to-reach areas, and supporting the first round of a novel oral polio vaccine type 2 campaign targeting 4.38 million children.
