Health and Early Childhood Development

UNICEF works with partners to strengthen maternal, newborn and child health services and expand access to quality early childhood development programmes.

This includes promoting vaccination and nutrition, improving maternal and newborn care, supporting parents through home visiting programmes and expanding early childhood intervention services for children with developmental difficulties.

UNICEF also supports efforts to ensure that health, education and social services work together to provide families with the support they need during the early years of a child’s life.

These efforts help ensure that every child has the best possible start in life.

By 2030:

• 80% of children under six years of age are reached by early stimulation, nurturing care and parenting support services
• 95% measles vaccination coverage is achieved, ensuring herd immunity and stronger protection for children against preventable diseases
