Every child has the right to grow up free from violence, abuse and neglect.

UNICEF works with partners to strengthen child protection systems so that risks can be prevented, identified early and addressed effectively.
This includes strengthening family support services, improving foster care and promoting family-based care for children without parental care.
UNICEF also supports efforts to ensure that justice systems respond to the needs of children and protect children who come into contact with the law.
Support is also provided to protect refugee and migrant children and ensure they receive appropriate care and protection.
Together, these efforts contribute to ensuring that children grow up in safe, protective and supportive environments.
By 2030:
- 15% of children in conflict with the law benefit from diversion and non-custodial measures that prioritise rehabilitation and reintegration
- 400 or fewer children live in residential institutions, down from 566, reflecting stronger family-based care
- At least 9,500 children affected by violence receive support services through strengthened protection system
