Somewhere in a small village in Dobrogea, in a small mud-built house with white curtains and windows the color of the clear sky, lives a young mother with her four-month-old son, Andrei.

Andrei's father is no longer in their lives. They still have no stable income for her and her little boy, but they are raising their child clean, cared for, surrounded with a love learned, perhaps, from lack. Or perhaps out of a desire to break a vicious cycle.

"I was very tormented in the past. Now I am doing very well. Since the baby was born, I am very proud, very happy."

Roxana didn't have her mother when she was little. Then, with the help of social worker Mitica Bîra, she ended up at the Children's Reception Center in Tulcea County, where she stayed for two years. After the hard years of her childhood, she lost her hearing. But she finds the strength to hope for a better life for her little boy.

"When she doesn't know something about the baby, she asks me. She keeps in touch with the nurses. The child is registered with the family doctor, he is vaccinated. She is doing very well," says Ms. Bîra, who has known Roxana since she was four. She started working as a social worker in Dăeni.

Mrs. Tica, as Roxana calls her, also helped her change her place of residence so that Andrei could receive legal support. They prepared the file together, and Roxana's partner worked by day to cover the cost of the journey to Măcin, in the absence of a bus. Soon, Roxana will have an income for Andrei's needs. Mrs. Tica also took care of her hearing aid.

"I want to fight for him no matter how hard it is. I want him to finish school, college, have a good future, get a job. Whatever he wants, I support him."
