About the "Romania for Every Child" initiative

The initiative “Romania for every child. Making social inclusion real - breaking the cycle of exclusion for the most vulnerable children in Romania” is now in full swing. It was formally launched through a public event organized and delivered in partnership with the Senate of Romania on the 19th of November 2021, the day before World Children’s Day.

The programme was implemented in five communities in Bacau and Brasov and it was supported through a 4.2 million Euro grant provided by Norway through the Norway Grants under the Local Development Program supported by the Romanian Social Development Fund.

Integrated Community Centers

Four Integrated Community Centers have been so far opened under this programme, in Brasov, Corbasca, Colonesti and Moinesti, where vulnerable children and their families receive basic social, health, and educational services, as well as specialized services. The fifth Integrated Community Center will be launched soon in Bacau. All the teams of the community centers have been organized already and the first training session on coordination and supervision of local teams has been delivered.

Child Friendly Cities Initiative

Another crucial stage of this Programme was the signing of a memorandum, on July 2021, with all the five communities involved in it – Bacau, Moinesti, Brasov, Colonesti and Corbasca – all of them participating in the Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI), a critical pillar of the Project „Romania for Every Child”.

National Coordination Committee (NCC) comprising 19 members, including UNICEF, has been established to supervise the implementation of the Child Friendly Cities Initiative and to certify child friendly cities / towns / communes of villages. CNC had a first meeting on the 29th of July 2021 and organized an orientation workshop on the following day.

For setting up new local children’s consultative structures where none exist, a mapping exercise has been carried out and the process for selecting the children, which will start in May 2022, has been defined. Orientation workshops on CFCI for children have been delivered in Moinesti (February 2022), Colonesti (March 2022), Corbasca (March 2022) and Brasov (March 2022), one in each community.

In February 2022, Horia Tecau, National Ambassador for UNICEF in Romania, visited the Colonesti Integrated Community Center and learned from the children, their families, and local professionals about the community needs and the importance of this Project for upholding every child’s rights.

Subsequently, Horia Tecau attended a show on Magic FM, where he spoke about the Programme Romania for every child and its role in creating a better life for every child.
