Highlights

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, a significant number of people have been forced to leave their homes, seeking refuge in neighboring countries, including Romania. Currently, around 77,000 refugees are in Romania, with 70% being women and children. Adolescents are a unique age group with distinct challenges, needs, and aspirations that set them apart from both adults and younger children.

The prolonged conflict in Ukraine has influenced the development and diversification of needs among refugee children and adolescents. Initially, the primary focus was on immediate needs like safety, food, and shelter. However, as their stay in Romania continued, their needs expanded to include social and educational integration, mental health, and protection from violence and abuse.

The premise of the study is that, to improve the quality of life for adolescent girls from Ukraine who are refugees in Romania, it is essential to understand their perceptions, living conditions, needs, and expectations. Consequently, the results obtained can facilitate the development of measures and tools designed to support the young people included in the research and others in similar situations.
