Our Oman, Our Priority

UNICEF Oman and SABCO Media launched the very first “Our Oman, Our Priority” photography competition that seeks to raise awareness on children’s rights and views on what matters the most to them in the environment surrounding them. The contest is a platform for children aged 6 to 18 years old to share a photo of what is important to them in their immediate environment – from their family farm to their local wadi, their community pitch or their favorite mountain spot. This competition is providing a chance for children and young people to present to adults what their environment is like around them, from their viewpoint, and how we can all come together to promote a clean, safe and sustainable environment, for every child.

Join us today and remember! the competition runs from Sunday, 8^th October 2023 to Wednesday, 25^th October with final voting on UNICEF Oman’s Instagram to be open until Tuesday, 31^st October. Four fan-choice winners will be selected based off of the highest engagement/likes with two winners from the category of children aged 6 to 12 and two winners from the 13 to 18 age category. Two additional winners will be selected by SABCO Media and the Ministry of Social Development. Winning entries plus a select number of the runners up will be featured in a special World Children’s Day event and exhibition in November 2023.

World Children’s Day, celebrated on 20 November each year commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). As the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history, the CRC is an international agreement that outlines the full range of rights that children have to grow, learn, play and reach their full potential.

Terms and Conditions:

• The photo contest is open to children aged up to 18 years. Parents may submit a photo on behalf of their child.

• Submissions are to be sent by email to [email protected] with #OurOmanOurPriority in the subject line by Wednesday, 25 October 2023. Submissions within the body of the email are to include the following information. Only complete submissions will be shared on UNICEF Oman’s Instagram account and included in the competition.
  • First and last name (family name) of child
  • Age of child
  • Photo location (city or governorate)
  • Date photo was taken
  • Short description about the image (what does it show about the environment you live in)
  • Phone number for contact purposes only
• Only one photograph submission per child is allowed.
• Minimal photo editing is permissible, but altering the photograph is not allowed. We assume that every photo submission is legitimate and was taken by the indicated child. However, if a photo is suspected of alteration, it will be rejected.
• By submitting your photograph, you accept that you/your child are the copyright owner of the photograph and that you agree to UNICEF Oman’s terms and conditions. For any images submitted that showcase faces, you accept that you have gotten consent or are providing consent by submitting the photograph. Any photograph taken in a public space that shows a child’s face, consent is assumed.
• Under our terms and conditions, the photographer owns the copyright and simultaneously grants UNICEF Oman and its partners the rights to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivatives of such photographs, in whole or in part and in any medium, for editorial, promotional, and/or programme purposes.

• The final decision of the 4 - fan choice winners is determined by the highest engagement rates, voting closes on Tuesday, 31^st  October 2023 at 23:59. Fan favorite winners will be selected based off of the four photos that have the highest engagement/likes posted to UNICEF Oman’s official Instagram account (2 winners from children below 12; 2 winners from children aged 13 to 18). The final decision of the two additional winners is determined by SABCO and the Ministry of Social Development, respectively.
