A promise carries weight. It holds an intention to remain, to follow through, to be there when it matters.
That idea sits at the heart of UNICEF Oman's Promise, or Wa'ad, campaign: a commitment made in Oman that becomes real support for a child facing hunger, displacement or loss. It begins with a personal pledge and ends in supplies a child can hold.
A wall filled with promises
The campaign, delivered in partnership with SABCO Media, launched during Ramadan at Leilat Al Wa'ad, hosted at Al Mouj Muscat. At the centre of the evening stood the Promise Wall, where members of the community paused to write down what they were ready to promise for children.
Some promised to speak up for children's rights. Others committed to kindness, protection, education, a safer future. Together, the messages carried one meaning: children facing the world's hardest circumstances are not alone. The installation remained at Al Mouj throughout March, inviting more people to add their voices. On air, presenters at Al Wisal FM and Virgin Radio Oman were asking the same question of listeners across the Sultanate. The campaign continues today.
Turning intention into action
A promise can still be made. Supporters based in Oman who make a one-off contribution of OMR 45 or more can receive the UNICEF Promise bracelet. The funds raised help UNICEF deliver therapeutic food, safe drinking water and sanitation, vaccines, healthcare, education supplies, shelter and warm clothing to children living through emergencies.
OMR 45 can provide approximately 381 sachets of ready-to-use therapeutic food, enough to support the treatment of two to three children experiencing severe acute malnutrition. UNICEF works with partners in more than 190 countries and territories, reaching children and families in places including Gaza, Sudan and Yemen.

Supporters are encouraged to wear it, share the story behind it and invite someone else to make a promise of their own. By posting a photograph or short video and tagging @unicef_oman, one person's commitment can inspire another.
Partnership that helps a promise travel further
Partners have helped bring the campaign into public spaces, conversations and communities across Oman. SABCO Media, whose stations Al Wisal FM and Virgin Radio Oman carry the message nationwide. Their presenters have lent their own voices to the campaign, encouraging listeners across the country to make a promise for children. Their airtime has carried the invitation far beyond Muscat.
Al Mouj Muscat hosted Leilat Al Wa'ad and the first Promise Wall, with Azura as the evening's food and beverage partner, while ASYAD Group has provided logistical support.
Each partner contributed something different: a place for people to gather, platforms through which stories can travel, and the practical support needed to bring the campaign to life. Together, they show how businesses can use their reach, resources and expertise to help build a wider movement for children.
A promise that reaches beyond us
In Oman, a wa'ad is sincere. It reflects trust, responsibility and an intention meant to hold. The Promise campaign draws on that understanding and asks us to extend it further, to children we may never meet whose lives can still be changed by the choices we make.
A promise made here can become therapeutic food for a malnourished child, clean water for a displaced family, a vaccine that protects against disease, or supplies that help a student return to learning.
Compassion reaches across distance. Followed by action, a promise made here can change a life somewhere else entirely. It can tell a child: we have not forgotten you, and we will stay with you.
