The UNICEF Oman Youth Advocate programme empowers young people from across the Sultanate to advocate for the rights and wellbeing of every child. The programme equips advocates with advocacy skills and platforms for meaningful participation in dialogue at the local, national, and international levels — ensuring that the voices of children, adolescents, and young people are heard in the decisions that affect their lives.
Selected for their passion for social issues, their ability to inspire their peers, and their potential to be positive role models, the advocates work to amplify young voices and drive positive change across a connected set of priorities: mental health and reducing the stigma around seeking help; healthcare and youth development; child rights and positive parenting; online safety for children in a rapidly changing digital world; and equitable, inclusive access to quality education that reaches the most vulnerable and marginalized children, including those who are neurodivergent. Through volunteer initiatives, outreach, workshops, and creative and educational content, they help translate commitment into real results for children and their communities.
The programme reflects UNICEF Oman's conviction that young people are powerful agents of change and essential partners in realizing the rights of every child. By fostering meaningful youth participation, it works towards an Oman where every child can learn, grow, be protected, and reach their full potential.
Hajer is a student that has spent years advocating for the mental health of young Omanis through volunteer work and outreach. Hajer has a strong passion for uplifting her peers and finds the space to listen to the unheard voices. With her passion for writing she shares relatable short stories to inspire the youth.
She comes with experience at the whispers of serenity clinic to destigmatize asking for help, determined to work with whoever needs the outreaching hand, to ask the questions they’re scared to ask others, and be the ear that listens, not just hears. She aims to bring out their untapped potential in all the ways she knows they are capable of.
Almutasim Alamri is a nursing student from the Sultanate of Oman with a strong passion for healthcare, human well-being, and youth development. As a UNICEF Youth Advocate, he is committed to promoting children’s rights, amplifying the voices of young people, and encouraging meaningful youth participation in creating positive change. His interests include global health research and the application of innovation and technology to improve healthcare outcomes. Through leadership, volunteering, and research, he strives to contribute to healthier, more resilient communities.
Alongside his academic journey, Almutasim has actively participated in national leadership, innovation, and youth development initiatives. He has served as a Health Supervisor and health education consultant, contributing to community health promotion through a range of local and national initiatives. He has also volunteered at numerous community and national events. In addition, he is certified in Artificial Intelligence for Data Analysis and serves as one of the leaders of the Rafdd Charity Team at Oman College of Health Sciences, reflecting his commitment to service, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
Alreem is a 19-year-old English and Translation student.
Once, she was a little girl with a boundless imagination, countless dreams, and the grit to pursue them. She has been fortunate enough to see many of those dreams become reality, and she knows that opportunity is a privilege. That is why she is here—to help extend that privilege, even in the smallest way, to every child.
While access to healthcare, quality education, and a safe, loving home are essential, she believes that positive parenting is the foundation of a happy childhood. It nurtures confidence, curiosity, and resilience, allowing children to grow into their fullest potential. She also believes that imagination is something every child deserves to protect and cherish. It is where confidence begins, hope takes shape, and futures are first imagined. Every child deserves the freedom to dream boldly and the support to turn those dreams into reality.
Faris is an active advocate committed to advancing children's education. He believes that every child deserves equal access to education in order to thrive and succeed. He has been a committed volunteer of public and community services since middle school. After volunteering at a disability center and identifying a gap in education for neurodivergent children, he created an educational platform, making a basic right accessible to marginalized communities.
His passion for finance led him to conduct financial literacy courses, empowering children to manage money effectively and achieve long-term financial security.
In his free time, Faris plays golf for the national team of Oman and competes in regional and international golf tournaments. As an avid golfer, he shares his expertise through golf lessons for underprivileged children to encourage participation in sports and gain physical and mental wellbeing benefits.
This is Amna. She’s from Sudan, a big part of what she does and wants to do in the future is because of Sudan. You see, she’s always wanted to work with children in Sudan, she has a belief that the children are the future and investing in their education and wellbeing is the key to a better future. Unfortunately she is not in Sudan now but the dream is still there!
She’s in Oman now and she wants to apply to Oman what she couldn’t apply to Sudan and tackle an issue she thinks needs urgent attention which is online safety for children. She believes the generation of people born from the late 90s to the mid 2000s experienced an era of unsupervised internet access because their parents and guardians didn’t have much knowledge about the internet and online spaces. This is not something she wants to see repeated again in this generation especially with the landscape of the internet changing so rapidly and children only spaces shrinking. This issue is something personal to her as she has younger siblings and cousins on the internet and their safety is important to her as well as other children. So as a youth advocate she wants to make it her mission to drive change and bring about awareness to this issue.
