National Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children in Nigeria
National guidelines to provide regulatory framework to standardized approach and services for vulnerable children without appropriate care
Highlights
UNICEF and SOS Children’s Village supported the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs with funding from the European Union to develop National Guidelines for the Alterative Care of Children in Nigeria and its implementation framework.
The guidelines provide regulatory framework to standardized approach and services for vulnerable children without appropriate care including children deprived of family environment, Almajiri and children on the move.
The National Guidelines marks a significant turning point in Nigeria's approach to alternative care services as it recognizes and addresses risks and uncertainties including exploitation, abuse, and neglect faced by children deprived of family based or appropriate alternative care.
