“Preschool age is marked by an important characteristic – that a child learns and develops best through play. Parents are, most certainly, the first teachers their children have. This whole #OstaniDoma (#StayHome) situation must be steered in a constructive direction – to influence the relationship between children and parents positively, and comprehensively support their development through the most natural form of learning – play itself,” said Tamara Milic, head of one unit in the Ministry of Education.

The #PlayAtHome campaign will continue for as long as social distancing measures are in place. At the same time, videos featuring various types of games with children will be posted on the social networks of UNICEF Montenegro, the Association “Parents” and the Ministry of Education.

“Therefore, we invite all educators and parents to send their videos through social networks and show us how to turn staying at home with their children into learning through play and fun,” said Milica Lekic, Public Relations Advisor at the Ministry of Education.

In difficult times, children need the love and attention of adults. The #PlayAtHome campaign is an invitation to all parents to dedicate some extra time and attention to their children and to allow them to play and relax.

“Use this precious time to be with your children – be involved with them. This investment in their development will yield a hundredfold return. They learn from you. Play with them – the majority of learning takes place through play! By doing this and serving as a model, you will foster the development of the most beautiful values and virtues in your children!” Milic concluded.

Children’s response to stress may vary from increased irritability, withdrawal, anger or nervousness to bedwetting, etc. By engaging in open conversation and play, every parent can help their child cope with stress during the coronavirus outbreak.

That is why our message to all parents and children is: Let’s play at home!
