CETINJE, JULY 2 2023 – For an orchestra to be successful, all its members must learn how to work together, resolve conflicts constructively, and support each other in order to achieve a common goal. Developing these skills is at the heart of the socio-emotional development of every child. This is the key message of the Montenegro’s Children Symphonic Orchestra Concert to be held tonight at Vladin Dom in Cetinje at 8.00 pm.
It is well-known that art and culture encourage social and emotional development. For this reason, UNICEF calls for every child in Montenegro to be provided with opportunities to engage in art and culture.
Students from music schools across the country will play together famous music by Brahms, Dvorak, Bizet and Marquez. Mark Korović, a well-renowned European conductor, will conduct the Children’s Symphony Orchestra concert in Cetinje tonight.
Music is like a society – you respect the rules, respect everyone, respect each other, try to understand others and try to understand you too. I think everyone should come to the Montenegro’s Children Symphonic Orchestra concert to feel the special food for the soul. I am sure that once people start coming, they will always want to come back.
This will be the second Montenegro’s Children Symphony Orchestra concert to be organized within the programme for the development of socio-emotional skills, My Values and Virtues, which was introduced into Montenegro’s education system in 2015 with support from UNICEF and the Bureau for Education.
So far, it has been expanded to more than 100 primary and secondary schools supporting more than 20,000 students to learn to recognize their own and other people’s emotions and solve problems constructively.
UNICEF recommends its integration into Montenegro’s mainstream education, so that every child has an opportunity to develop socio-emotional skills within the education system.
State secretary in the Ministry of Education Milijana Vukotic-Jelusic said that developing socio-emotional skills through music and tonight’s concert, which is a result of a multi-year program, are examples of an effective approach to empower individuals and build a better human capital for the future.
All these young people at stage have learned that togetherness is built and that there is a value in differences. These processes cannot be realized without a continuous, systemic support, which the Ministry of Education will continue to provide by empowering teachers, creating better conditions for work and cooperation, developing creativity, and encouraging talents.
Princess Altinai Petrovic Njegos, together with her father Princ Nikola Petrovic Njegos, well-known for promoting Montenegro’s culture, will attend the concert tonight to show support to engaging children and youth in art for socio-emotional development of every child in Montenegro.
Empathy, solidarity and how to be effective as a team are just some of the skills that girls and boys develop through art education. We all need these skills, they are essential for the well-being of individuals and societies.
Irina Klakor, who plays oboe and attends the Music school in Tivat, is excited about tonight’s concert.
She said that this wonderful music experience means a lot to us, as we do not often have a chance to play in such a huge orchestra with so many great musicians.
We were honoured to work with outstanding conductors who have helped us make our music come to life in the most beautiful way. This is really the best thing one student can experience.
This is the second concert of Montenegro’s Children Symphonic Orchestra. It has happened thanks to the generous support of Montenegro Music Centre, which welcomed children-musicians along with the professional mentors from the Montenegro’s Symphonic Orchestra that it hosts.
See you next year in our shared home – the Montenegrin Music Centre, where we will create new possibilities and dream new dreams with everyone involved in this project.
The concert will be filmed and later broadcast at the public service RTCG.
Second Children’s Symphonic Orchestra concert is organized in Montenegro’s Royal Capital Cetinje, with support from UNICEF and in cooperation with the Music Centre, all music schools across the country and the Bureau for Education.
