Find out how you can become a professional parental assistant and what benefits you will have
Every child has the right to grow up in a family. Thus, since 2001, a new profession has emerged in the Republic of Moldova, which requires a lot of care, dedication and kindness - the profession of being a parent (professional parental assistant). Professional parental assistance is a social service provided by the state and is one of the best solutions for children separated from their biological families.
To this end, the General Directorate for the Protection of Children's Rights (GDPCR) recruits professional parental assistants to provide children, including teenagers and refugee children in Ukraine, with support, care and a family-friendly environment. To achieve this goal the campaign "Change a child's life. Become a professional parental assistant". The action is carried out in partnership with UNICEF Moldova.
Every year, hundreds of children need the support of professional parental assistants
Currently, more than 100 children without parental care are waiting to be placed with families in Chisinau municipality. In this context, the GDPCR aims to increase the number of professional parental assistants within the Professional Parental Assistance Service (PPAS) in Chisinau municipality to 50.
Who is a professional parental assistant?
The Professional Parental Assistant (PPA) is the person who provides temporary family care to a child at risk, but also offers support in reintegrating the child into his/her biological or extended family.
The Professional Parental Assistant is also employed, receives a monthly salary, a health insurance policy, a work card and an individual employment contract. The children will receive a one-off allowance, a monthly allowance and a monthly financial supplement. One child, two children or a maximum of three children if they are siblings can be placed in Professional Parental Assistance. It is not possible to foster children who are related to you, except in exceptional circumstances.

Who can become a professional parental assistant?
A professional parental assistant is a person who can help a child overcome a situation of risk by providing temporary care, upbringing and education. They also help the child to integrate more easily into school and society.
Any married or unmarried person who has experience in raising children can apply to become a professional parental assistant.
You can become a professional parental assistant if:
- You have enough time to care for and educate a child;
- You have experience in caring for and raising children;
- You can ensure equal rights with the other children in your family (if you have children);
- You can respect the child's identity and personality;
- You help them to integrate into school and society;
- You are open to maintaining contact with the child's biological family,
- You are willing to be trained and supported by the Professional Parenting Service team;
