Launch of the open educational resources platform
Speech delivered by Deyana Kostadinova, UNICEF Representative in the Republic of Moldova, at the press conference
Esteemed Minister of Education and Research, Mr. Dan Perciun,
Your Excellency, Ambassador Iwona Piórko,
Distinguished representatives of the education community,
Dear colleagues and partners,
Ladies and gentlemen.
Moldova is becoming smaller, older, and more digital. In this context, the knowledge, skills, health, resilience and capabilities of every child become a national development asset.
A country with fewer children cannot afford to lose the potential of any of them.
In this context, education reform aims to align curriculum, teacher capacity, learning resources, digital systems and inclusion around one objective: better learning outcomes for every child.
As Moldova advances on its path towards European Union accession, education reform is increasingly becoming part of a wider process of institutional modernization, convergence with European standards and investment in human capital.
But the strategic objective is broader than education alone. It is human development in a rapidly changing world.
EduResurse should be understood in this context.
Developed by UNICEF in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research, with financial support from the European Union, EduResurse is not simply a digital platform. It is part of the enabling infrastructure of education reform and, through that reform, an investment in Moldova’s human development.
By creating the infrastructure through which knowledge can be accessed, EduResurse strengthens the capacity of the system itself.
And that matters because human development in the coming years will increasingly depend on continuous learning.
Children entering school today will live and work in a world shaped by artificial intelligence and rapid technological change. Many of the skills they will need do not yet have a fixed definition.
This is why digital education should not be understood simply as the introduction of new tools. It is part of a wider transition towards an education system capable of supporting lifelong learning and preparing children for a changing world.
EduResurse is one practical contribution to that transition. It turns dispersed educational resources into a public asset.
And the next stage should go beyond use. EduResurse can also become a platform for broader national partnership around education.
The private sector, technology companies, foundations, universities and development partners can all contribute, by supporting the development of new content, innovative digital tools, teacher resources and materials in emerging areas such as digital and AI literacy.
This also creates an opportunity to mobilize additional investment in education around a clear national platform, rather than through fragmented, stand-alone initiatives.
EduResurse can and should become part of the long-term infrastructure for Moldova’s human development.
For UNICEF, this is an important principle: public systems should remain public, coherent and nationally owned, while partnerships can bring additional expertise, innovation and resources.
I encourage teachers, pupils and parents to explore the platform at eduresurse.gov.md, to use it, to contribute to it and, importantly, to help us continue improving it.
Thank you.
