Even one accident is too many

Chisinau City Hall, UNICEF Moldova and Premier Energy Distribution have joined forces to ensure the promotion and development of actions aimed at avoiding accidents and trauma due to ignorance or non-compliance with safety regulations and unauthorized intervention in electrical installations.

Electricity sets the world in motion. It brings us well-being. But in addition to daily convenience, electricity can be dangerous if safety rules are not observed.

”A considerable number of children and students spend more time at home, often unsupervised by adults. The house must be a safe environment, and compliance with all electrical safety rules and the adoption of precautions around them must become a norm, ”said Ion Ceban, mayor general of Chisinau. "I am grateful to our partners for their openness in order to strengthen efforts to reduce domestic accidents and to promote electrical safety for children and adolescents," added Ion Ceban.

During the winter holidays, in the conditions of the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, but also with the beginning of the cold season that will bring difficult weather conditions - precipitation, strong wind, sleet - which involves an increased risk on electricity networks, shaping responsible behaviors in relation to electrical installations is particularly important.

”As a father of a 3 year old I share many of the concerns of parents, who may welcome this initiative, which at the heart is about prevention, about putting in place mechanisms, and informing children and parents about safety in homes, where now, unfortunately, children are spending more time because of Covid-19. We are glad to see proactivity at this level, when we are trying to top prevent a tragedy, because even one incident is too many, if its preventable, especially when it involves children, ”said Ilija Talev, UNICEF Country Representative a.i in Moldova.

A series of informative materials in the field of electrical safety will be developed and made available to parents, guardians, caregivers, but also to children and adolescents through the online educational platform (educatieonline.md), as well as in urban public transport and educational institutions. general.

In the conditions of the public health emergency situation, 94 institutions in the municipality and the suburbs do not have the possibility to ensure the physical presence of students at 100%. Therefore, education is organized online or in 2 shifts. At the same time, if at least one positive case of COVID-19 is confirmed, the class / educational institution is quarantined and continues the distance learning process.
