This report is a companion to UNICEF Maldives’ Building Futures: Securing Child Rights and Responding to the Adolescent Challenge. Where the previous report identified widening challenges in education, health and protection, this report deepens that analysis by asking what those challenges look like in a digitally connected environment.
It views childhood in the digital age as a developmental continuum, recognising that children's experiences, risks, and support needs evolve with age. The report is guided by four interconnected objectives: digital equity, digital citizenship, digital safety, and digital wellbeing. Together, they highlight a growing gap between expanding digital access and the systems needed to protect and support children online.
