Building a better world for children and young people cannot be done alone.

Communities, committees, ministries, families and young people have to work together to achieve progress for children in Maldives. And there has been much measurable success in recent decades: more children survive; fewer children suffer from preventable diseases; and more children go to school and learn.

But there is a lot more to do. As UNICEF Maldives focuses on critical concerns for children and young people, we call on others to take a stand with us. We ask that you join us in friendship as we work together for and with children and young people.

The friends

The Friends of UNICEF come from across Maldives. They stand with UNICEF as we work to build a Maldives fit for children and young people – and prepare children and young people to build a Maldives fit for the future.

This network of friends includes people from all walks of life. They are:

  • Parents and families
  • Local council members
  • Civil society organizations
  • Advocates and influencers
  • Diplomatic community
  • Government ministers

Our friends always include children and young people.

In action

Opportunities for the Friends of UNICEF focus on six kinds of actions.

Sharing technical expertise: We welcome experts in UNICEF priority areas who can share their knowledge with children, young people, parents and caregivers – whether in workshops or training sessions.

Communication: Friends of UNICEF can help amplify the work of UNICEF through their personal digital engagement. They can also join in the fun at UNICEF events such as World Children’s Day activities.

Advocacy: Our friends also help advance child rights by advocating for child rights priorities with government ministers, local leaders and elected officials.

Fundraising and research mobilization: UNICEF Maldives also welcomes friends who can raise funds and mobilize in-kind services.

Community engagement: Community leaders can also work in partnership with UNICEF Maldives to encourage equitable access to services for children and young people in communities throughout Maldives.

Youth engagement: Young people are a vital part of UNICEF Maldives. UNICEF works with young friends to provide platforms for their voices and ideas to be heard and heeded.
