Cost of inaction

Humanitarian crisis in southern Madagascar
UNICEF/UN0406834/Andrianantenaina

About

Southern Madagascar, the poorest region in one of the world’s poorest countries, is suffering its worst drought in years. This combined with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has destroyed livelihoods and created a major food and nutrition emergency that has left over 1.1 million people food insecure. 500,000 children under 5 years old are projected to be malnourished by April 2022. This is a crisis that will continue to worsen unless the humanitarian response is scaled up urgently.
