Highlights

UNICEF and UNHCR carried out a review of promising practices. The aim was to understand the factors that help to strengthen the protection and care of children and adolescents on the move. The review came under the framework of the Global Promotion for Best Practices for Children in Migration initiative, which was jointly implemented by both organizations from 2020 to 2024 and aims to reinforce the protection of children on the move in the region, particularly in Mexico and El Salvador. Four case studies were developed – one for each selected country. The case studies exemplify different types of interventions that benefit children on the move in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. The interventions selected for the case studies focus on different moments of migration – community of origin, transit, destination, and return.
