Highlights
These two illustrated comic books were created by UNICEF to help children explore important values like empathy, diversity, and standing up for others. Aimed at kids aged 8–12 and teens aged 13–16, the stories are designed to spark conversations about how we treat others—especially those who are new or different.
1. Children of Ala-Too
In a mountain village, a dark spirit spreads division among children, leading to bullying and exclusion. When Maya, a new girl, is targeted, her friends Almaz and Samat stand by her and protect another newcomer, Mansur. Their kindness weakens the spirit’s power, and a Good Spirit appears—showing that unity and friendship can overcome hate. This story encourages children to welcome others and support one another.
2. The Virus Lesson
A mysterious virus changes Alina’s appearance, making her a target of ridicule. When her classmate Timur is affected too, he learns what it feels like to be excluded. Guided by his grandmother, he apologizes and joins Alina on a journey to find a healing flower. Along the way, they discover that compassion and teamwork are the real cure. This comic teaches the importance of empathy, forgiveness, and helping each other through challenges.
These stories help children understand that kindness and inclusion make communities stronger—and that everyone deserves to feel welcome.
