Kosovo Generation Unlimited (K-GenU) supports young people across Kosovo to move from learning into work by connecting them with structured, practical experience in real workplaces. To date, more than 4,000 young people have completed internships through the programme, gaining their first exposure to professional environments and developing skills aligned with labour market needs.

The programme is implemented under the leadership of the Ministry of Finance, Labour and Transfers, UNICEF Kosovo, and the German–Kosovar Chamber of Commerce, with financial support from the Austrian Development Cooperation. Through this partnership, K-GenU brings together public institutions, private companies, and civil society organizations to create pathways that support youth employability across diverse sectors.

A strong emphasis is placed on inclusion with young people engaged through cooperation with local partners. As the programme expands, it continues to ensure equal access to opportunities for skills development, internships, and employment throughout Kosovo.

Learning a Trade

For many young people, the first step into the labour market begins in small businesses and craft-based professions.

Loris Bekaj is completing his internship in barbering, where daily hands-on practice has helped him develop technical skills and understand the discipline required in a professional setting. The experience has strengthened his confidence and clarified his plans to continue building a career in this field.

Venhar Hajzeri is following a similar path in hairdressing. Working directly with clients has allowed him to refine his practical skills while learning about responsibility, consistency, and customer service, core elements of any service-based profession.

Technical and Industrial Experience: From Classrooms to Facilities

K-GenU also connects young people with opportunities in technical and industrial environments, where theory meets practice.

At the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Gjakova, Dion Radoniqi is gaining hands-on experience in mechatronics. By participating in real operational processes, he is learning how technical systems function in practice and how teamwork and precision are essential in industrial settings. This experience is helping prepare him for employment in a growing technical field.

Digital Skills and Technology

As demand for digital and technical skills increases, the programme supports internships in innovation and learning spaces.

Ambla Hasimaj completed her internship as a Technical Assistant, supporting trainers and participants in digital fabrication and electronics labs. Through work with prototyping tools, electronic components, and digital equipment, she strengthened both technical and soft skills, including communication, time management, and teamwork. The experience has helped her gain confidence to pursue further opportunities in technology.

Communication, Media, and Creative Industries

Internships in media and communication offer young people the opportunity to develop creativity alongside professional discipline.

Lejla Canaj began her internship in online media with strong motivation to learn. Working in a fast-paced environment helped her build confidence, improve communication skills, and understand professional standards in public communication. The experience clarified her career interests and strengthened her sense of responsibility at work.

In education-focused digital environments, Jona, Arbnorja, and Fjolla started as interns and later transitioned into employment. Their roles span programming training, technical instruction, and graphic design, demonstrating how internships can evolve into long-term opportunities when skills and workplace needs align.

Care, Education, and Community Services

K-GenU also supports internships in sectors that directly serve communities.

In the Municipality of Kamenica, Eureta Dermaku completed her nursing internship in local health institutions, applying academic knowledge in real care settings. The experience helped her strengthen professional ethics, communication, and teamwork—key competencies for a future career in healthcare.

In early childhood education, Donjeta Ahmeti and Bjondina Rudhani completed internships at the “Filizat” kindergarten. Working closely with young children helped them better understand emotional development, communication, and the importance of creating supportive learning environments.

Green Economy and Sustainable Livelihoods

The programme extends beyond traditional sectors to support sustainable livelihoods.

Erlis is completing his internship in beekeeping, learning about hive management and honey production. This hands-on experience has introduced him to environmentally responsible practices and the patience and care required in nature-based professions.

A Growing Platform for Opportunity

More than 13,900 young people have registered on www.kosovogenu.com, and over 1,100 organizations, businesses, and institutions are now engaged in the programme. For many participants, internships have led directly to employment.

Kosovo Generation Unlimited continues to strengthen links between young people and the labour market by offering practical experience across sectors—from personal services and technology to healthcare, education, and the green economy. By doing so, the programme contributes to a more inclusive and responsive ecosystem for youth employment in Kosovo.
