UNICEF and Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Emphasize on Ethical Representation of Children in Media

During a meeting on 31 January 2022 the UNICEF Representative in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Deputy Minister for Media Affairs and Information of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance (MoCIG), discussed their current collaboration and joint activities to promote good practices in the way children and children’s issues are reported in the media and explored the possible future areas of collaboration.
Dr. Robin Nandy and Mr. Farshad Mehdipour, acknowledged the successful implementation of the several joint activities to enhance the capacity of the journalists and photojournalists on the ethical representation of children in media.
UNICEF and MoCIG held two workshops for the journalists and photojournalists and are currently developing comprehensive ethical and legal guidelines on reporting on children and children’s issues.
To promote good practices in journalism, in 2021, two reporting and photography competitions with the theme of “Children’s Lives during the COVID-19” was jointly organized to promote the cause of children during the pandemic.
Dr. Nandy and Mr. Mehdipour expressed their willingness and hope to continue enhancing the capacity of national media and preserving child rights in both traditional and social media.
