Empowered adolescents co-created innovative solutions for positive change in communities

UNICEF implements a skills development aims to empowerment adolescents through co-creation of innovative solutions with aims to support adolescents with relevant set of skills for their future while meaningfully engaged to create solutions to the problems concerning them. The Innovation Challenge: Generasi Terampil has empowered adolescents in selected provinces in Indonesia to improve their 21st century skills, digital skills, and entrepreneurial skill to co-create innovative solution for issues they identified in their communities.

Innovation Challenge was initiated in 2019, and until the end of 2022, the programme has reached more than 12.000 adolescents in selected regions in Indonesia. The programme stages start by providing series of workshop for teachers, tutors, and mentors on how to work with adolescents. The adolescents receive series of workshops to identify problems concerning them and will be encouraged to submit idea solution which ranging from education, bullying and violence against women, environment, health, climate change, and mental health. The selected teams will receive more intensive skills training by industry expert mentors, where adolescents will be equipped with skills such as creativity, empathy and teamwork as well as relevant digital and entrepreneurial skills to turn their ideas for solutions into innovative prototypes. During the intensive skills training, the adolescents received training and mentorship to develop skills, their solution prototypes, as well as career preparation workshop. At the end of the programme, the selected teams of adolescents will have a chance to showcase and present their solutions in front of Government of Indonesia, Development Partners, and relevant Private Sector.
