Every Right for Every Child

Every right creates a bright future for every child. These rights help children develop a unique, strong and beautiful identity.

Two joyful young Indian children — a smiling girl in a blue dress and a giggling boy in white — sit together on a colourful mat against a bright blue background, representing childhood happiness, child rights, and UNICEF India's 2023 Calendar.

Every Right for Every Child

Every right creates a bright future for every child. These rights help children develop a unique, strong and beautiful identity.

The UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989) sets out that Child Rights are entitlements and freedoms that should be afforded to all persons below the age of 18, regardless of race, colour, gender, language, religion, opinions, origins, wealth, birth status or ability, and therefore, rights apply to all children everywhere.

The Child Rights are stipulated as interdependent and indivisible, meaning that no right may be preferred at the expense of another.

The ability to access all rights helps children develop their identity and dignity and reach their full potential.

As children aspire to have their rights secured, they can learn, play, be healthy, be safe, be happy, and pursue their dreams and aspirations.

Together with the Government and partners, UNICEF ensures that every child in India can access all rights. That children get the best start in life, survive, and thrive and have a voice.
