World Children’s Day (WCD) is a Global Day of Action for children organised by UNICEF. It commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) on November 20, 1989. In India, a week of activities is organised in the lead-up to WCD, starting with National Children’s Day on November 14.
UNICEF India, along with its partners and collaborators, addresses the most critical issues affecting children in India. Everyone is invited to join this effort and contribute to ensuring that every child enjoys every right.
This year World Children’s Day will GoBlue to signify child rights. While it’s not a celebration, blue reminds us of UNICEF and our mandate for, about and with children.
Children have been missing out on essential services through the COVID-19 pandemic. Going blue (along with children’s takeovers) reminds us that the pandemic recovery must be child centric.
The COVID-19 crisis is a child rights crisis. The costs of the pandemic for children are immediate and, if unaddressed, may persist throughout their lives.
Children and young people will face the long-term impacts of this pandemic and how the world responds in the coming years. Their voices must be included in decisions that affect them.
Children and youth are raising their voices about the climate crisis with the same seriousness they showed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both issues can have significant and harmful effects. To effectively address these challenges, people from all generations must unite to create a healthier world for children.
