CAIRO, 19 September 2024 – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Egypt and Al Ahly Sporting Club (Al Ahly SC), have renewed their partnership for another four years, reinforcing their joint commitment to advancing children’s rights across Egypt.
Building on the achievements of the previous collaboration, this renewed partnership strengthens the shared vision and goals of UNICEF and Al Ahly SC to harness the transformative power of sports in promoting children's rights and well-being.
Speaking at the press conference, Jeremy Hopkins, UNICEF Representative in Egypt, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Sports break down barriers, bring communities together, and inspire young people to dream bigger. This renewed agreement isn’t just about continuing our work—it’s about reaching more children, and harnessing the influence of Al Ahly’s athletes. The agreement is a pledge to the children of Egypt to stand up for their rights at every turn."
Over the next four years, UNICEF and Al Ahly SC will roll out various joint initiatives, including campaigns, sports events, and advocacy programmes on key issues such as positive parenting, girls' empowerment, child protection, nutrition, and social inclusion. Al Ahly’s prominent athletes, including the newly established women’s football team, will play a key role in these efforts.
Eng.Khaled Mortagy, Treasurer of Al-Ahly Sporting Club, reaffirmed the club's commitment to supporting children’s causes: "At Al Ahly citadel, we are proud to advocate for positive social change. Our partnership with UNICEF has enabled us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children, and we are excited to continue this journey. We are confident that with the passion of our supporters, we can inspire millions to take part in creating a better world for children. We will continue scoring goals for children’s rights, empowering them through sports and giving them hope for a brighter future."
