The UNICEF-UNESCO Gateways Study Visits facilitate cross-border knowledge sharing on how to strengthen public digital learning platforms and ensure that education is effectively supported in online and digital environments, as well as in the physical and social spaces of schools and universities. Organized periodically in partnership with host countries, the Study Visits provide national focal points and other key stakeholders with first-hand exposure to successful digital learning models and practices. Upcoming Gateways Study Visits are announced on the UNICEF website for the Gateways to Public Digital Learning Initiative.
Egypt (May 2024)
UNICEF and UNESCO, in partnership with Egypt, hosted the first Gateways study visit from 14 to 16 May 2024 to share experiences developing, sustaining, and improving public digital learning platforms.
Indonesia (October 2024)
Indonesia hosted a Gateway Study Visit on 1-3 October 2024 in Bali. Organized under the theme “Beyond Tech Intervention: Navigating Indonesia's Education Transformation,” the visit highlighted how Indonesia is leveraging diverse digital platforms to enhance educational equity and quality. The Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology shared insights into how its Merdeka Belajar (Emancipated Learning) policy has fostered improvements in both online and offline learning environments.For details, please see here.
China (May 2025)
China hosted a Gateway Study Visit on 15-17 May 2025 in Wuhan. Representatives from 15 countries joined the visit and share their experiences and expertise, while learning about China’s digital education strategies and approaches. The Gateways Study Visit highlighted China’s strategies and specific approaches to digital education, including public digital learning platforms. For details, please see here.
