Together with our strategic partners, UNICEF is defining a new vision to go beyond digital as usual to transform the delivery of education in the 21st century. This vision focuses on rethinking the way we leverage AI, digital tools and other innovative approaches to address the global learning crisis.

Across the world people are talking about the perils and challenges of our digitized world. This is especially true in education, where despite billions of dollars invested in EdTech, we are still seeing limited impact on the global learning crisis and stalled advances in foundational learning. To address these challenges and go ‘Beyond digital as usual’ UNICEF is creating a new vision for digital education, empowering teachers as co-creators of digital transformation, improving foundational learning, fostering 21st century skills development, and working with governments and partners to support evidence-based, safe, inclusive and responsible integration of EdTech and AI into education systems to drive measurable improvements in learning.
Issue 3. September 2026
Artificial intelligence is accelerating the pace of education change, requiring us to rethink how we teach and learn. As we work to deliver on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN80 Initiative, the Global Digital Compact, the Charter for Public Digital Learning Platforms, and other international accords, we are advancing a new vision to leverage artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to address the learning crisis and shape a more equitable future for learning.
