UNICEF and Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment sign Work Plan for 2023

Havana, March 6, 2023.- UNICEF Cuba and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX) signed the 2023 Work Plan, for an estimated amount of USD 1.5 million, which is part of the 2020-2024 Cooperation Cycle, articulated with the United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development.

Signing for the Cuban side were Carlos Fidel Martín Rodríguez, Director of International Economic Organizations at MINCEX, and for UNICEF, its Representative in Cuba, Alejandra Trossero, in the presence of other officials from both institutions, including Edcy Aguilar, MINCEX specialist, and Dagoberto Rivera, UNICEF Program Coordinator, as well as representatives of various Cuban counterparts such as the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior, the National Statistics and Information Office, the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, the Center for Psychological and Sociological Research, the Office of the Historian of the City, the University of Havana and the National Center for Sex Education.

The annual Work Plan contains the main activities to be developed within each program component, the estimated allocation of available resources and the expected results. Its main purpose is to contribute to national efforts aimed at guaranteeing the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, instruments that have been ratified by the Cuban State.

In addition, the Work Plan is built on the analyses agreed between both parties during the preparation of the 2020-2024 Country Program, as well as the recommendations and agreements derived from the 2022 Annual Review.
