Programme for inclusive, supportive, and equitable education for children of migrant background

The Education and Teacher Training Agency, together with partner institutions, CARNET, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb (Department of Pedagogy), collaborates with the UNICEF Office for Croatia in the implementation of the programme Supporting protection and integration of children and families in migration in Croatia​.This is a joint programme of the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and UNICEF Croatia, funded by the Government of the Swiss Confederation.

The programme’s activities aim to support the realization of children’s rights and contribute to raising the quality of inclusion for children and students of migrant background, as well as other students who do not know or have insufficient knowledge of the Croatian language, into the education system of the Republic of Croatia.

The main activities are:

• Research into the needs of children and students, as well as members of their families, regarding the challenges they face in the process of inclusion into the early and preschool education system, primary and secondary education, and research into the needs of educators in creating a stimulating, inclusive, and equitable environment for children and students of migrant background at all of the above-mentioned levels of the system.
• Development of two e-learning professional development programmes for educators (preschool teachers, primary and secondary school teachers, specialists, and principals) in early childhood, primary, and secondary education, in line with previously identified needs, under the title “Programme for Inclusive, Supportive, and Equitable Education for Children of Migrant Background.”
• Support for raising awareness among educators, parents, and the wider public about the challenges faced by children, students, and their families in integrating into the Croatian education system and in realizing their right to quality education.
